Sustainability works for business enterprises in their own self-interest. The survey shows, for example, that the critical online society believes companies today are responsible for much more than just maximizing their profits: The majority (87 percent) believes that companies are responsible for their employees; 85 percent of the people surveyed are of the opinion that companies are responsible for the impact they have on the environment; responsibility for their economic success only comes in third (83 percent); and 80 percent also see companies as responsible for the impact of their actions on society.

30 percent would like their investments to take into account ecological and social as well as economic criteria.
Focusing business activities on sustainability also pays off on the stock exchange: almost one in three of the people surveyed (30 percent) would like their investments to take into account ecological and social as well as economic criteria.
And finally, business sense with responsibility pays off in the battle for talent: 42 percent of those surveyed would prefer to work for a company that attaches importance to sustainability – among people surveyed with a higher level of education (high school/university graduates) this rises to more than one in two (51 percent).
