Every fifth respondent (21%) thinks that smartphones are status symbols. A nationwide comparison shows that trend conscious Berlin residents (29%) in particular consider the smartphone to be a status symbol, followed by North Rhine-Westphalia (26%). The trend will continue to grow in the future: Among young respondents, one-third (33%) of 14 to 29-year-olds consider the intelligent mobile phone to be a status symbol and a lifestyle expression. This is so impressively evident that it even threatens to disprove an old cliché: It used to be jokingly said that the majority of German men loved their car more than their wife.
